The Science of Success: Mental Toughness Lessons from Olympic & World Champions

What do gold medal winning athletes and successful executives have in common? Both these groups of elite performers utilize certain mental toughness strategies that allow them to peak perform under constant pressure. And in today's modern, high-stress environment, individuals need that extra mental edge in order to perform up to their highest potential.

This workshop will highlight the mental toughness strategies highly applicable to study & work! Participants will learn and model after the very same high-performance strategies used by world-class gold medal athletes that may be applied to their studies and future careers.

Edgar is Singapore's pioneer first Sport & Performance Psychologist in 1995. He was the team consultant and traveling psychologist to numerous national teams preparing for the major games such as Asian Games, Olympic Games, Paralympic Games, and ASEAN Armies Rifle Meets (since 1993).
As a full-time sport psychologist in private practice, Edgar has consulted for and implemented season-long sport psychology programmes for numerous sports teams and high performance organizations. He has shared his high-performance psychology expertise with more than 100,000 people from other domains outside of sport, including business, sales, online trading, health care, education, etc.
He is currently an associate faculty member in psychology and sports/PE at the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS). Edgar is the co-author of Mental Toughness Strategies of the World's Greatest Athletes and In the Zone: The Mindset for Peak Performance in Sport. He uses the lessons learned from champion elite sport as a metaphor for teaching the principles of peak performance under pressure and stress.

He is also a long-time lecturer for the Singapore Sports Council’s National Coaching Accreditation Programme in Mental Skills Training since 1996. He developed the national sport coaching curriculum (SG-Coach) in Sport Psychology, Communications & Relationship Building, and Sportsmanship, Values & Principles. Edgar holds black belts in both Aikido and Taekwondo, and has been awarded Colours Awards for his leadership and achievements in canoeing (National Schools Champion, 1983) and dragon boat racing (National Champion, 1990). In 2010, Edgar was awarded the highly prestigious Diplomate in Sport Psychology by the International Sports Professionals Association (USA) for his pioneering work and contributions in sport psychology in Asia.
